District Trainers

Pam Austen teaches third grade at Deep River Elementary School.

Hilary Evans teaches third grade at Chester Elementary School.

Laura Hilton teaches music at Valley Regional High School.

Bev Moshier is a library/media specialist at Chester Elementary School.

Kristie Schmidt is an English teacher at Valley Regional High School. An eighteen year teaching veteran, she belongs to the NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English) and is faculty advisor to the school's online literary magazine, www.ToKnowEnd.org. She currently teaches AP English Language and Composition, Creative Writing, Media, and Sports Lit. In the past she has taught English 9, 12 and Detective Fiction. A former advisor to the Voices of Valley newspaper, she is the chair of the Summer Reading Committee for the fourth time, and has served in the past on the Professional Development and Evaluation Committee. Ms. Schmidt most recently was trained as a UbD (Understanding by Design) turnkey trainer and facilitates a Critical Friends Group at the high school. Formerly the English department coordinator, Ms. Schmidt has taught elementary and middle school as well. Ms. Schmidt was a Fulbright Exchange teacher to England and is a graduate of Harvard University and Smith College.

Sara Wasley is in her fifth year of teaching English at John Winthrop Middle School. In addition to teaching English, Mrs. Wasley takes great pride in co-coordinating the Writing curriculum. Mrs. Wasley most recently was trained as a UbD (Understanding by Design) turnkey trainer. Mrs. Wasley is a graduate of the Master's Education program at the University of Connecticut and also holds certification in teaching speakers of other languages.
