Seventeen Model United Nations students travelled to the Hopkins School in New Haven to participate in their 4th Annual Model UN simulation.  There were five committees discussing several topics:

1) General Assembly: American Imperialism
This General Assembly focused on American Imperialism during the 19th and 20th centuries. 

2) General Assembly: The Modern Silk Road
This General Assembly tackled the topic of China's modern Silk Road. 

3) Specialized Committee: The Regulation of Virtual Currency
This specialized committee, for more experienced delegates, addressed the rise of crypto-currencies. 

4) Specialized Committee: British Parliament (2016)
This specialized committee, for more experienced delegates, discussed the United Kingdom's decision to leave the European Union.

5) Crisis Committee: The Second Congo War (1998)
This crisis committee, for the most experienced debaters, focused on The Second Congo War, which is also referred to as The Great African War. 

Students was assigned a country to represent in each of their committees.  After spending the day in discussion, negotiation, and writing resolutions to help solve the problems presented, an awards ceremony was held.  Connor Riordan, a junior at Valley and representing China in the Virtual Currency committee, won an "Outstanding Delegate" award.
