The Speech and Debate teams from Valley Regional High School competed at the Yale Invitational, Saturday and Sunday, September 17th and 18th. Valley entered three teams into the Parliamentary Debate and one team in Duo Interpretation. The Yale Invitational attracts over one thousand competitors from across the country as well as Canada. The Yale Debate Association, an undergraduate debating society at Yale University, hosts this tournament. One of the oldest college groups of its kind in the United States, past members range from President and Chief Justice William H. Taft to current US Secretary of State John Kerry.
Valley teams competed all day Saturday through five rounds, and the Parli team of Charlotte Boland and Elise Wilson won four rounds and lost one, which placed them into the octofinals on Sunday morning. Although they lost to Regis, Valley was well represented and placed in the top 22% of the 82 teams competing!
Zane Bouregy and Nate Russo competed in the Duo Interpretation competition but did not break into the semifinals after five rounds.
